Frequently asked questions

Is Feathergrade a subscription?
No. It's a one-time $49.99 licence (£39.99in the UK) that includes twelve months of updates. After that the app keeps working forever at the version you're entitled to. Continued updates are an optional $19.99 Update Pass for another twelve months — no back-payment for years you skipped.
Is there a free trial?
No. Feathergrade is deliberately a one-time purchase at a price low enough to try on real work without a credit-limited trial or freemium tier. Buy once, own it, and use it on your projects. Consumer protection can sit in the refund policy where required.
How many devices can I use?
An Individual Licence supports up to 2 personal Macs — for example a desktop and a laptop. The licence belongs to one person, not two separate users. Deactivate in Settings when you swap machines.
Can I use Feathergrade for commercial work?
Yes. The Individual Licence covers personal and individual commercial use — freelance photographers, designers, retouchers, content creators, and sole traders producing client work. A separate business licence is only needed when multiple employees need their own installations.
Do I need an API key for the AI features?
Yes for generation. Connect your own Gemini key in Settings; optional Vertex and FLUX keys unlock export upscale and precise-mask inpaint. You're billed directly by those providers — no resold credits or markup from us. Classic local tools work with no key at all.
Are my photos private?
Your projects live locally on your disk and nothing is uploaded to us. Generation requests go straight from your Mac to the AI provider you configured — we never see your images.
Which AI models does it support?
Choose per generation between Pro Image, Flash Image, and Flash Image 2.5 — trading speed for quality as the task needs. Version history records which model made every result.
How is it different from Photoshop generative fill?
Feathergrade matches grain, lighting, focus and colour to the surrounding pixels, so the generated region blends into the photograph instead of sitting on top of it. It's also a one-time purchase, uses your own API keys at cost, and keeps your library entirely local.
What can the AI actually do?
Three modes: edit replaces anything inside a selection; infill removes and rebuilds with four blending methods; canvas expand outpaints beyond the frame. A heal tool handles quick clean-ups.
Does it run on Windows?
Today it ships for macOS 12+ on Apple Silicon and Intel. A Windows build is technically feasible on our cross-platform foundation but isn't tested or released yet. Register interest here.
What file formats can I export?
Export to PNG, JPEG or WebP with quality and size control.
